Designing and Installation of False Ceiling

Now that we know all the advantages of False Ceiling over your normal Concrete Ceiling, it’s time for us to install it in our rooms. But wait, we need to design it first before we can even think of starting to install it.

So much for Planning ahead?

Yes, from the start of this blog, we’ve been preaching of ‘Planning Ahead’. Now when it’s time to install the False Ceiling, we don’t have the designs prepared. So, why is that?

Honestly, we didn’t have plans to install the False Ceiling before. Our goal was to keep the walls, floor and ceiling simple and clean, that we can decorate later as we please. But when we were finalizing our contract with the builder, he also added ‘False Ceiling’ as a deliverable. If we don’t want to install these that’s fine. Adding or removing False Ceiling won’t increase or decrease the budget. So we thought let’s leave it as it is, and we can make a decision when the times comes.

Now that the time is here and we have done our research, we decided it is a nice thing to have and it has more pros then cons. This also means we need to design it.

Designing False Ceiling – How hard can it be?

Honestly it’s not very hard. Just pick a pen and paper, use your imagination and start designing. Theoretically any design and color is possible, but you also want to look at the latest trendy designs. What better place to look at then Internet?

A simple google Image search gives you hundreds of ideas to choose from. We did the same, but there was one problem. All these designs were overwhelmingly beautiful. The use of LED lights, geometric patterns, multiple layers and colors made all those designs very eye-catchy and beautiful, but they were a bit too much for us. We kept the design of our house very simple and in order to go with that theme, design of our False Ceiling should be simple too.

For some odd reasons, we weren’t able to find a simple design that we like on the internet. There we some designs that had some elements that we likes, but not all of them. So we decided to make our own design.

Keeping it simple

We’re planning to keep it very simple. A Ceiling fan will go in the center, a couple of light bulbs and that’s it. We also saw the use of LED strip in a design and we liked the idea, so we’re also going to add LED strip into our design. The design we came up with is given below.

In the center of the ‘Plus’ symbol, there will be a fan. These square/rectangle boxes will be hollow and the LED strips will be installed in these boxes. The strips will not be visible but only the glowing light will show up which I think will look pretty sick. Light bulbs will be evenly added on the plus symbol and side panels.

Same design across the house?

Yes, and No. We’re planning to use the same theme in all rooms (i.e. hollow box and side panels), but they will be a bit different according to room’s shape and size. We are not planning to use multiple colors, it will be same color as walls. Like we said before, we are keeping it simple, and we think it will look great.

What’s the Progress?

We designed the ceiling and discussed it with our builder. We discussed the design and changes in that design according to each room. It took us 2 days but finally we finalized the designs for all the rooms. Next day the work started.

Now the ceilings of a couple of rooms are ready. See the gallery below:

Right now, two major tasks are running together. Floor tiles are being installed and so are the false ceiling. Both are time consuming processes and that’s why, they are running in parallel.

There is still a lot to do, but the work is great and we are quite satisfied with the speed of work. There is still a lot to do and we hope it gets even more exciting and we learn something new everyday.
