Work on wall tiles of bathrooms was very fast. If we look at the leveling of room floors that was happening in parallel; it seemed way faster. In 6 days, the floors of all rooms were leveled properly and tiles on bathroom walls were near completion. Without wasting any time, we decided to start installing the room floor tiles and skirting.
As discussed in our previous blog post, room floor needed to be leveled properly before we can install the tiles on them. One team was working on leveling the floors while other team was working on bathroom walls. Floors were leveled before the tiles on all the bathroom walls could be completely installed. We decided not to waste any time and start installing the room floor tiles right away.
Which type of tiles for the rooms?
We discussed this before (blog post), Glazed Porcelain tiles will be installed in all the room floors. This doesn’t include the bathrooms as bathrooms will have non-glazed (Matt) Porcelain tiles, but more on that later.
These 2’x2′ Glazed Porcelain tiles have same texture and color for all the rooms throughout the floor. The tiles on first floor will be slightly darker then the tiles on ground floor, but the texture and size will be same. We decided to change the colors just to give the floors a unique difference.
What about Skirting?
Yes, the wall skirting will be made using the same tile as on floor. Wall skirting makes sure that the walls doesn’t become dirty while we mop the floors. Mopping the corners becomes much easier when there are tiles on both sides. We decided to use 2’x6″ pieces of floor tiles as wall skirting.
The result looks great. See gallery below:
As soon as the tiles is installed, an adhesive/bonding agent is filled between the two tiles. This makes sure that the tiles are properly attached to the floor and to each other too. We don’t want the tiles to come out do we!
When the tiles in a room are completely installed, they are left to set for a day. After that a thick layer of Plaster of Paris is left on the floor. Why? Let’s discuss in in an upcoming post.
