We Purchased a 7 Marla Plot… First step in the right direction

After about a year of research, discussions, site visits and compiling long lists of pros and cons, we did it… We became the proud owners of (a small but) our very 7 Marla/ 175 sq. yards plot.

The plot is in (an almost) developed housing society in Upper Punjab (Pothohaar) region, Pakistan. We’ve lived almost our entire lives in (sort of) housing society so it was very obvious to us that whenever we are going to purchase a plot and build a house on it, it will be in a gated community with its own perks and privileges.

Owning a plot is just the beginning. Now starts a journey that has many milestones, requires a lot of hard work and patience; but the ultimate goal is to see that land and those cement boxes built on it and proudly say; “That’s my HOME!”

Now some details about our plot:

It’s a 30×52 square feet (175 square yards) or in other words; 7 Marla, north-facing plot. Being located in Pothohar region, there’s always some land filling involved to level the plot. We’ll know more details in Soil Testing report.

Our plot is 3rd in a row of about 20 plots, so it’s not a corner plot. Price of corner plot was about 10% more than the normal plot and it was going out of our budget. Park is located just around the corner so that’s a good thing. Underground electricity and Sewerage system are already installed and functional.

It’s easier if the plot you chose is owned by the society, you can directly purchase it from them, but in our case; the plot was owned by a third person (not the society) so we needed to transfer the ownership.

(Read more about our struggle to find the right plot in a previous blog post: 3 common mistakes people make while searching for a plot/house)

We and the plot owner went to society’s head-office and they helped us through the process. Ownership was transferred, and we received our papers within two weeks. They even helped us registering our plot in TMA (Tehsil Municipal Administration).

Next step will be the Soil testing, but more on that later.
