Installation of Windows at our house

In our last blog post, we discussed four major types of windows, as far as building materials are concerned. They all have pros and cons ranging from design options to pricing. The windows we decided to install for our house are the safest bet. You see them everywhere these days and they don’t cost a fortune either. Yes, you guessed it, it’s ‘The aluminum windows’.

But Why?

When we were searching for options for windows, pricing was a major concern. We have a lot of (quite big) windows in our house plan and we don’t want to spend too much money on them. We wanted simple and plain big glass windows.

So we crossed wooden and steel windows out of our list. Wooden because they are too expensive and they won’t be able to handle bigger glass panels very efficiently. Steel because we couldn’t find a design that looks good and they are also very expensive.

That leaves us with two options: uPVC and Aluminum windows. Pricing was a major concern but the ultimate deciding factor was the color options. We loved the ‘champagne’ color of aluminum windows which is one of the default colors of aluminum windows.

Keep in mind that both uPVC and Aluminum can be coated into the color of your choice, but that process costs money and we don’t want to spend money on just the windows frame. For us, simple ‘champagne’ colored frame and glass windows are quite fine.

How we did it?

The whole process started in the last week of April. Our builder asked us to decide the windows for our house. We did our research and told him that we want aluminum windows. The very next day a team came and they took all the measurements. They were hired by our builder from a company, that deals with aluminum windows making and installation. The contract was to install the windows only, so they quickly noted down all the windows sizes, locations and all the related details, and left, saying that they will be back within two weeks.

This week, after exactly 2 weeks; they came back with all their equipment. They had all the aluminum frames and glass sheets, cut to the required sizes and ready to install. They started installing the frames and windows one by one, and withing 6-8 house; they installed all the windows, with their locks, wheels and everything. Pretty Impressive!

We opted for the sliding windows, rather then the opening and closing ones. We wanted to bring as much light and fresh air into the room as possible, so we are planning to keep the windows open most of the times. To avoid any dust and insects from entering into the room, we also installed fiber mesh screens. When the windows are open, we can push mesh panel to stop dust and insects, but not the light and fresh air.

That’s it for this week’s update. Let us know in the comment below, what do you think? If you have any suggestions for us feel free to comment below.
